RiesenWelt Brixen im Thale

My secrets at the mountain lake & high moor

The Filzalmsee (1,300 m) in Hochbrixen is a paradise for me as a hiker: I can explore the blooming alpine landscape and the rare animal and plant species along the panoramic trails. Next to the Filzalmsee lake, which is easily accessible with the Hochbrixen gondola lift, there is a biotope with a peep box and nature discovery stations: They reveal to me the underwater world of an alpine lake with all its mysteries. The RiesenWelt Brixen im Thale is full of secrets and adventure fun: I can glide across the lake on a wooden raft, clear everything in the skittles game and a water sprayer operated by an alchemical screw delights naturalists like me!

There is a giant sandpit for little hikers - but watch out: there is a treasure or two buried here!
On the themed hiking trails Entdeckerpass, Riesenspaß, Riesenweg, Riesenwald and Riesen-Seen-Wanderung there are even more attractions waiting for me, such as a balancing course or a giant xylophone.

There are also Kneipp stations for my health and well-being, such as moor treading pools and wading ponds. The mountain inns around the Filzalmsee spoil me with typical specialties of the region, such as Kaiserschmarrn or a Brettljausn with bacon and mountain cheese.

The legend of the giant

A long, long time ago, a giant spread fear and terror among the people around the Filzalm.
On a beautiful summer's day, out of the blue, the evil giant hurled stones from the Hohe Salve onto the grounds of the Filzalm and caused great mischief. As punishment, the heavens sent a terrible thunderstorm and the loud rumble of thunder could be heard from afar. Suddenly, a huge bolt of lightning struck and tore a hole in the mountain pasture floor. The heavy rain quickly filled the hole with water, creating the Filzalmsee as we know it today.

The evil giant was defeated and banished to the lake as punishment for his misdeeds. Since that day, the terrible giant has been stuck at the bottom of the Filzalmsee. From time to time, the giant fights his way to the surface and emerges from the waters! So take a closer look and maybe you too will come across the giant from the Filzalmsee!

Barrier-free in the giant world

The RiesenWelt is partly suitable for baby carriages.
For example, the giant path is suitable for baby carriages despite moderate gradients. Please ask the cable car team which paths you should avoid with baby carriages & co.
