World first: piste snow measuring system

News | 12.12.2017

It is a revolution in terms of piste preparation: the new snow measurement system, which will be used throughout the entire SkiWelt from winter 2017/18. Using GPS, the snow cover on all slopes is determined to within a few centimetres and informs the snow groomer drivers in real time during grooming how much snow is currently under their powerful snow groomers.

A quantum leap in snow management

This means that every section of piste can be supplied with snow with pinpoint accuracy - not too much and not too little. This means: less and more targeted use of technically produced snow, therefore less water and energy consumption as well as less fuel and shorter operating times for the snow groomers. 500,000 euros were invested in this measure. No fewer than 70 snow groomers are in operation night after night in the SkiWelt to prepare the 275 kilometres of pistes perfectly for the next day. Seven of the latest high-tech piste machines were purchased for this winter alone.
