In April/May of the last year of the war in 1945, numerous Wehrmacht units entrenched themselves in the Sölland area for a "last stand" against the advancing Allies. One such SS troop took refuge in the forest above the Grünbichlhof and covered the Americans approaching from Itter with machine gun
