Hartkaiser round

Ellmau

Route description

I start my hike at the hiking information centre in Ellmau and take a leisurely stroll in the direction of Faistenbichl. I soon pass the famous Bergdoktorhaus, the practice from the TV series "Der Bergdoktor". From here, I follow trail no. 1 to the crossroads at the former mountain inn and then continue on trail no. 3.

My next destination is the rustic Rübezahl-Alm. I enjoy an impressive view of the Wilder Kaiser from the large terrace. The perfect place for a short break. Austria's longest carved figure trail starts right here. On trail no. 3a, I discover numerous lovingly carved figures along the way as I slowly hike uphill towards the Jägerhütte at around 1,400 metres.

There is still a short, somewhat steeper section ahead of me before I reach the Hartkaiser mountain station at 1,520 metres. At the top, Ellmi's Zauberwelt is a real experience - especially for families. Children can go on a treasure hunt in the fairytale forest while I explore the nature trail and enjoy the fantastic mountain scenery.

For the way back, I follow hiking trail no. 1 via the Hochschwendt mountain inn back down into the valley.

My tip: If my legs are tired after the hike, I can also take the Hartkaiser gondola lift back down to the valley in comfort.
